My Greenmagination has been running wild lately with all the media coverage of Global Warming, and the media's use of the phrase World War III. This British 8/2/06 article says: "Alarmism about global warming in Britain is t
antamount to "climate porn" as it arouses people without encouraging them to take action, a leading think tank claimed."
That article goes on to say: "It criticised the alarmist approach of depicting climate change as awesome and irremediable, prompting a "we are all going to die" response. But it also attacked the "small actions" approach." While a small amount of actions by a small amount of people should be criticized, this Eco-Congregation site says it all: "Small actions add up to big results." Just think about all the people and companies that bought and promoted war bonds during World Wars I & II.
Americans can be very resourceful in a crisis, but do most of us (as well as major corporations) believe there are urgent crises, and ones that we can all help do something about? Here's what one of the world's leading theoretical physicists (Dr. Stephen Hawking) says about the survival of the human race.
This Yahoo Video says: "Dr. Hawking answers the question he posed to the Yahoo! Answers community: How can the human race survive the next 100 years?" which got over 690,000 views on Hawking's 4 minute and 30 second video (Be sure to read the reviews of it below the video screen!)
The temptation is for us to live in our own little worlds, since we have enough to deal with already. Some may even "stick their heads in the ground" and "play ostrich". But, maybe, if enough alarmist media and Internet user generated content promote constructive suggestions on how we all can do something to help with any crises, then small actions will hopefully add up to big results. Doing something is better than doing nothing! Paradigm Shifts need to be "from the ground up" rather than "from the top down", if they are to have an urgency about them, and be truly effective in the long run.
When it comes to greenmagination spurred on by Scientific opinion on climate change, let's all develop a "BUY GREEN BONDS" mentality "TO KEEP OUR WORLD SECURE".
